History

For the Caputo family, The Orlo School of Hair Design and Cosmetology feels just like home. It’s where owners Rick and Alice Caputo’s children Angela and Andrew did their homework after school, and it’s where they remain today as co-managers of the beauty school with their parents.

The Caputo family’s cosmetology and Capital Region roots go back decades, beginning at former sister cosmetology school Colonna in the 1960s, where Rick was an instructor. Rick and Alice, both Colonna alumni and licensed cosmetologists, purchased the beauty school in 1989 and became co-directors and owners. Six years later, the couple purchased The Orlo School of Hair Design and Cosmetology and fused the two schools, moving all classes to Orlo’s North Allen Street location in Albany.

Over the years, Orlo has helped thousands of students of all ages and experience levels earn their cosmetology licenses. The school has participated in Capital Region events, partnered with local organizations and launched the careers of many alumni who have gone on to own major businesses in upstate NY and nationwide.

Today, you can find Rick, Alice, Angela and Andrew actively involved in every aspect of the school’s day-to-day management. Visit Orlo in person and you’ll find them giving tours, helping students with guest services, instructing, answering phone calls – you name it! And if they’re not at the school, they’re probably at Studio Orlo, their Niskayuna salon.
