The Orlo School of Hair Design and Cosmetology has become a second home to the Caputo family. Angela and Andrew, the children of owners Rick and Alice Caputo, used to complete their homework there after school. Now, they work alongside their parents as co-managers of the beauty school.

The Caputo family has been deeply rooted in the cosmetology industry and the Capital Region for decades, starting at the Colonna Beauty School in the 1960s where Rick taught. Rick and Alice, who were both Colonna alumni and licensed cosmetologists, purchased the school in 1989 and became co-directors and owners. Later, they acquired The Orlo School of Hair Design and Cosmetology, merging the two schools and relocating to Orlo’s North Allen Street location in Albany.

Over the years, Orlo has played a significant role in shaping the careers of countless students, regardless of their age or experience level, by helping them obtain their cosmetology licenses. The school has also been an active participant in various Capital Region events, collaborated with local organizations, and helped launch the businesses of numerous alumni, some of which have become major players in the upstate NY and nationwide.

Rick, Alice, Angela, and Andrew remain actively involved in every aspect of the school’s daily management. They can be seen giving tours, helping students with guest services, instructing, and even answering phone calls. To the Caputo family, Orlo is not just a school, but a legacy that they are proud to carry forward.
