Financial Aid & FAFSA

Q: What is FAFSA and why do I need to complete it?
A: FAFSA stands for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It’s the form used to determine your eligibility for federal grants, loans, and some scholarships. Completing the FAFSA is the first step in accessing financial aid to help pay for your education at The Orlo School.

Q: How do I fill out the FAFSA?
A: Visit studentaid.gov to fill out the application. You’ll need your Social Security number, federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other financial information. Our Financial Aid Office is happy to help walk you through the process.

Q: When should I submit my FAFSA?
A: As early as possible! FAFSA applications open on October 1st each year for the following academic year. The sooner you apply, the more likely you are to receive the maximum aid you’re eligible for.

Q: What is The Orlo School’s federal school code for FAFSA?
A: Our federal school code is 025876. Be sure to enter this code when completing your FAFSA so your financial aid information is sent directly to The Orlo School of Hair Design and Cosmetology.

Q: Do I need to reapply for FAFSA every year?
A: Yes. You must complete a new FAFSA for each academic year you plan to attend school and receive financial aid.

Q: What if my family’s financial situation has changed?
A: If your financial circumstances have changed significantly (due to job loss, for example), let our Financial Aid Office know. We may be able to help you file a professional judgment appeal for additional aid consideration.

Q: Does everyone qualify for financial aid?
A: Not everyone will qualify for grants, but most students are eligible for federal loans. The FAFSA determines your specific aid package based on your financial need.

Q: Do I have to accept all the aid offered to me?
A: No. Once you receive your financial aid award letter, you can choose which aid types (grants, loans, etc.) you want to accept or decline.
